Suburban Sound Syndicate Session #010 RECAP

Syndicate Sound Session 010 was more than just another show. It was a continuation of our commitment to the way we do things at Suburban Sound Syndicate. Assemble top tier talent, recognize industry standouts, share the spotlight with members of our community, and continue adding new and engaging elements as part of our mission to offer better entertainment in the suburbs. These are the standards and practices we’ve developed for how we do things that are part and parcel to throwing our shows. Yeet! We’re thankful for our journey so far, blessed for the support we’ve received, and as our ambitions fuel our growth, there’s soooo much more to come.

Now, I generally utilize a third-person account to describe the goings on at our events for this blog, but I’m going to be bit more personal for this entry. I know you won’t mind, that’s how Bear does it through Electro Scribe. What’s happening around here? Peer through my eyes and experience all I observe. I’m laying down tracks if you’d like to follow.
I also have a heartfelt message to share, and to do that properly, I’ll commit some details apart from my journalistic support for 3S. We’re going to connect, and you’ll gain some insight into my own personal character. For me, I relish the opportunity to learn about other human beings and hear their stories. You might want to have a box of tissues handy, for I know that beneath your exterior beats a kind and compassionate heart. However, before we have a joint cry sesh, let’s give thanks for the awesome action made possible by our artists and awesome production personnel.

Syndicate Sound Session 010 featured performances by Ether’s Creek, Stupid Fried, Innervines, Rydona, Danny Grooves, and Vinja. Each set was rife with individual tastes put forth by the performers. Personalized track catalogues exuding illumination towards the types of music musicians appreciate and respect. Many of our events are bass heavy, tonight was no exception, and these fine folks brought their best tracks to party. From the moment I walked in the door, the tunes were grooving and had me moving.

I’m going to take this opportunity to highlight Danny Grooves and Vinja, specifically. Danny Grooves is a native Illinoisan and is positively funky. Literally, I was chatting with Jerry Snackman (Deep Frequency Corp) out back when a young man approached and commented, “Danny Grooves is kind of funky.” Agreed, an astute observation, my fine friend.
I had the opportunity to chat with Danny after his set where he was extremely kind and gracious. We touched on his passion for production and how he’s navigated the music industry post covid. He also spoke a little bit about the challenges and rewards of producing music with an energetic five-year old running around the house, and I was also blessed to meet his lovely wife, Julie. Want to know more? Good. I’ll have a larger profile about Danny Grooves coming your way later.

Vinja is often referred to as Spinja, and there should be no doubt as to why. This dude knows how to scratch in addition to his talent for producing gorgeous and unique tracks. Vinja, the Spinja Ninja, put on a masterclass throughout the night. I’m probably not the first to refer to him in this manner, and when you witness his skills on stage, you’ll understand why. As the final performance of the night, he delivered an enthralling and energetic presentation that had the audience beaming. We were more than happy to receive his scintillating sound, of which he delivered for over an hour.

We love our dancers at Suburban Sound Syndicate, and we are truly blessed to have Katlyn Fritch organizing this aspect. Celestial Ember Collective always puts forth a contingent of phenomenally talented flow artists. Tonight, a couple of break dancers joined the mix who were ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. This break-dancing duo dubs themselves Stylin’ Out, and boy, they were wildin’ out. I heard these fellas talking in the green room towards the end of the night and this comment comes from their mouths, verbatim. “When in doubt, do a backflip!” Great advice, I’ll get to practicing that technique, immediately.

Stylin’ Out, alongside flow performers Kataya, Distortion, Coite, and Spookypatronus, entertained the audience with sleek, on fleek, movements. Furthermore, Rebel Productions walked the grounds in his LED robot suit, contributing to love stories, and even held a free raffle of his own to win a single day ticket, of the winner’s choice, to North Coast later this year. On the second floor, Rah and Aubrie excited onlookers with pole dancing demonstrations. Hell, even Andrew Massih got in on this brand of fun. Legendary!

We started holding raffles for our attendees at Syndicate Sound Session 009, and it’s something we plan to continue doing. I wasn’t able to attend SSS009, because my personal journey took me to Suwannee in Live Oak, FL for the final Tipper and Friends. Many of you are Tipper enthusiasts too, as are we within the Syndicate. Much of what Tipper and his coalition stands for is reflected in our own events. A love for art, encouragement for folks to be their best selves, tip-top entertainment, outstanding production value, and wholesome energy from all those involved. We have a renegade spirit, we do things differently, and that’s been impetus that motivates us daily. Now, back to the raffle held this night.

At Tipper and Friends, my close friend Cody “Brody” Puch was taken too soon. As Shakespeare once penned in Romeo and Juliet, Brody met an “untimely frost”. As I write these words, tears fill my eyes. When news broke of Brody’s passing, Josh Denson and the rest of Suburban Sound Syndicate decided they wanted to help however they could. As a community, we rally around our own. A raffle was established with all proceeds benefiting Brody’s wife, Taylor.

Brody had a charismatic personality, an understanding voice, and always made sure to help those in need. In his absence, his friends are committed to keeping his standard alive and well, carrying his inspiring excellence with us wherever life ventures. If you ever met Brody, you know what I mean. If you didn’t have the chance to meet Brody, just know that he harbored love for all, and always set aside time to chat with anyone about what was going on in their life. Earlier this same day his remembrance ceremony was held. I attended nearly the entirety of the memorial for my close friend, helping with the clean-up and tearing down before making my way to Rookie’s Rochaus later in the night. I wasn’t the only one, as I noticed more than a few familiar faces I had crossed paths with while honoring Brody.

Nomadik Nymph, Galactic Roots Eclectic, D&A Wellness, WeMakeThings3D, Tom Loranz, The Whimsical Libra, Jon Ingraham, Mariposa Sanchez, and CrushLyfe Daily all contributed items to the raffle. The basket of goods totaled a value near $1000. However, their donations are more significant than monetary value. It’s about love and support, and longtime 3S supporter Brett Morris took home the prizes! Thanks Brett, for sticking around!!!

I’d like to thank the vendors, artists, and all the professionals of Suburban Sound Syndicate for their support. Brody was an amazing human and represented harm reduction well within our community. At Syndicate Sound Session 005, he and Taylor had a table set up right by the door where they handed out free Narcan, condoms, and information aimed at helping people keep themselves safe, no matter what the situation. I noticed a table filled with items of this sort, plus vitamins and Tums, during tonight’s show. I hope we continue this trend going forward at our events. The best way to commemorate a fallen comrade is to include aspects of your friendship in your daily life and future endeavors.

Now, let me wipe away my tears and share this message: look out for your community and it will look out for you. Be friendly, courteous, and kind whenever you can be. Fierce and stalwart in defense when necessary. Cherish your friends, your loved ones, and appreciate the time you are given with their company. The saying goes that we are reflections of the friends we keep, echoes of who we are and what we believe in. Make memories whenever you can, for in the end, that is what we are all destined to become. Make the most of the time you have, and do your best to care for your mind, body, and soul. It’s my opinion, that’s the best way to live.

Syndicate Sound Session 010 was one of our most brilliant episodes to date. Rookie’s Rochaus has been home to our presentations very nearly since the beginning, our second edition officially, and we thank them so much for hosting our eclectic electric community. It was through this venue that Josh Denson earned his reputation as, “The EDM Guy”. Though we’re always on the lookout for venues that offer us the space we need to capably implement all the aspects we want to provide at our shows, Rookie’s Rochaus and its ownership have been nothing short of exceptional to work with. Thanks for helping us put on amazing shows.

There’s so much going on right now to be excited about, and we want to share it with you. Our ambitions motivate our growth, and we’re excited to have you along for the ride. We’ve recently announced our next edition, Syndicate Sound Session 011, headlined by the legendary ill.GATES. I’ll have a complete preview of the event coming your way soon, but don’t delay, grab your tickets now while they’re only $25 (never any fees)! We’re setting up shop at Durty Nellies in Palatine, IL for this one, and we couldn’t be more excited about what this new venue and location allows us to do with two separate levels, indoors and out!

Once again, I want to thank you all for being part of our community. It’s my philosophy that good entertainment doesn’t happen without fine folks like yourself who want to be part of the crowd. And, if you desire to be something more than a patron, sign up for our newsletter and you’ll find out how you can get involved. Until next time, be well, be successful. Bear Swiftly.
