Psyonaura Visions
Ethan Johnson and Kana Ullmer are the duo powering Psyonaura Visions. Their journey into the VJ realm began under humble circumstances. Ethan also DJs under the alias, Code, and one day while mixing tracks in the living room, the pair combined his music with visualizers to terrific effect. As they discovered a joint passion for mixing and visual jockeying, an idea was born. Why not mix tracks and visuals together, professionally? Most electronic events utilize scintillating imagery to elevate performances, and it was something they were having a blast doing on their own. Their direction now set, the pair invested in industry standard software, Resolume. Within a few months, they were slinging pixels at local events and expanding their reach throughout the Midwest.
Hailing from Appleton, WI, their first live performance came at The Porch in De Pere, WI in 2024. In support of an event put on by a music collective out of Green Bay, Chunesday (which Ethan is part of), they provided visuals and projection mapping. Further along, they supplied visuals for five hours straight at the legendary Tarlton Theater in Green Bay, WI. No interruptions, no breaks, all Psyonaura Visions all night long. With this upwards momentum pushing them forth, they’re dreaming big and taking necessary steps to bring their ideas into reality. Manifestation, baby! Skies are no longer limiting when you believe in yourself, and Psyonaura Visions see themselves performing at bigger festivals like Infrasound in their oncoming future.

One element that is extremely important to these fellas is originality. From the beginning, their goal was to mastermind live, in the moment, performances. Everything they create is on the spot. No prerecorded sequences or autopilot scripts. They work in tandem with artists by listening to the music and responding with sequences of live effects and visual mashups. Their preference is to work together, but sometimes Ethan steps to the other side of the stage to spin a set while Kana takes care of slinging pixels with poise and aplomb. They also use Blender to create one-of-a-kind Psyonaura Visions graphics.
As part of their growth, Psyonaura Visions has cultivated a natural relationship with Suburban Sound Syndicate. It started when Ethan reached out about how they could get involved in what 3S was doing in the suburbs of Illinois. Within a few weeks of inquiry, Psyonaura Visions signed up with the Syndicate and was added to the VJ lineup for Syndicate Sound Session 007, headlined by Random Rab and Rhizomorphic, and held on February 22, 2025, in Waukegan, IL. It was a terrific performance, of which there will be more to come. Their values align with what Suburban Sound Syndicate seeks to curate. Wholesome, top-tier production and entertainment in fostering a thriving community.
Psyonaura Visions are settlers of sorts, and they’re engaged in building their own flourishing electronic community within Wisconsin alongside the Chunesday collective. Ethan and Kana are fun and friendly fellas with big hearts and happy attitudes, and they desire to lend their services to support those who put the community first. They’ve got big plans going forward, and if you haven’t yet heard of the Sylvan Sounds Music Festival, this is your invitation to take a gathering gander.
